To overcome your thoughts, you have to understand them. You have to discover the very nature of your thoughts. Once you do it, it is only a matter of time before you control them.
But what if I tell you that you don’t have to control your thoughts, you only have to control what enters your mind and why it enters your mind?
Once you master the art of answering these two questions, you are done.
what enters your mind?
You are living in a vast world. A big cosmos, a vast universe, and a large planet. It is a big big world and you see not hundreds but thousands of things every day.
You listen to not hundreds but thousands of words every day. You are thinking about not hundreds but thousands of things every day.
You make not a hundred but thousands of plans every day. You observe not hundreds but thousands of people every day. Even a person who walks past you and whom you don’t notice makes an impact on your thinking.
Everything has a particular energy and makes a particular impact on your subconscious mind. And that is how your thoughts are formed.
Maybe you are thinking about drinking a coffee from Gloria Jeans because you saw their juice ad. Maybe you are thinking that you love that girl just because you haven’t dated for months.
Maybe you are thinking of playing a video game just because you saw someone chilling and having fun.
The question of what enters your mind is a crucial one. And why it enters is more crucial.
The answer to this why is your situation and how do you handle that situation?
For example, if you are facing failure at something, your answer to the why is that you are not accessing your situation, you are just reacting.
If you are angry and your thoughts are controlling you, the answer to your “why” is that you are not looking carefully for the solution, you are just being angry about the situation.
If you are betrayed, left alone, failed, lonely, or whatever it is, there is always an answer to your why.
Why am I thinking like this? Why these thoughts don’t stop? am I unable to understand my situation? Is it that much complex?
Or just my thoughts are making it complex.
Most of the time our mind creates situations out of nothing and mocks us when we keep reacting on it. So here are 5 methods to get hold of yourself together during chaos.
(1) The “thought” method:
As soon as you find yourself in a challenging or unfortunate situation, your mind will be firing thoughts to your side leaving you with no clue of what’s going on.
The more thoughts, the more illusion, and the less assessment of the situation.
So next time when you face such circumstances, try the thought exercise.
To practice it, at the time of thought crisis, just ask yourself: “What my next thought is going to be?”
And boom, all thoughts will disappear. The more you will find the answer to this question of what your next thought is going to be, the more your thoughts will disappear.
(2) The “cruelty” method:
Every time a thought comes to your mind that makes you feel bad, or any event from the past disturbs you, overthinking, self-pity, jealousy, envy, hatred, and so on – Do this exercise:
Dig the nail of your index finger into the cuticle of the thumb of the same hand until it becomes quite painful.
Concentrate on the pain: It is a physical reflection of the suffering you are going through spiritually. Ease the pressure only when the cruel thought has gone.
Repeat this as many times as necessary until the thought has left you, even if this means digging your fingernail into your thumb over and over.
Each time, it will take longer for the cruel thought to return, and eventually, it will disappear altogether, so long as you do not fail to perform the exercise every time it comes to mind.
By transforming a spiritual pain into a physical one, we can learn what harm it can cause us. And how necessary it is to get rid of our negative thoughts.
(3) The stoic method:
The stoic believes that our thoughts are a result of our negative energies. They are born out of our imagination and such thoughts that torment us don’t belong to reality.
We carve a world of suffering out of our imagination and our thoughts add fuel to the fire in this world of suffering.
The problem is that we suffer more before time because we think before anything happens.
The key here is to focus on the things which we can control and let go of the things which we can not control.
In this way, we will stop overthinking the things which we can not control and we will be more optimistic and passionate about the things which are in our control.
He suffers more than necessary, who suffers before it’s necessary. We suffer more in our imagination than in reality. SENECA.
(4) The “long chain” method:
Most of the time our thoughts become overwhelming when we are suffering due to a particular event in our life. The key here is to recognize the pattern.
That life and its events exist in a long chain. And that event is just a part of that chain.
Like it is a big puzzle and that event is just a piece of that puzzle.
So don’t overthink, just move silently, just stay low, step back, and keep going without letting your thoughts overcome you.
(5) The “food” method:
You may not believe it but your food directly influences your thoughts.
You are what you eat.
So, the best method to improve the quality of your thoughts is to improve the quality of the food you eat.
You have two wolves in yourself. One is a werewolf and the other is an aware wolf. Ware wolf is your body and the aware wolf is your soul and they are connected through food.
Your body has an organic consciousness and it has to be taken care of through good and organic food.
In America, an experiment was carried out on rats who were given different diets.
The first one had a rough, fast-food diet and the second one had an organic diet.
One by one, they were left in a tub of water with only one safe spot in it.
The rat with the organic diet quickly moved to that safe spot as soon as he touched the water. The one with the fast food just tried to go here and there and at least he drowned. (of course, he was saved).
So you are what you eat.
