Nigerian dancer Benjamin Daniel, known as Ben Dancer, has finished a seven-day dance marathon in Lagos. Now he is waiting to find out if he has set a new Guinness World Records title.
The 33-year-old took on the challenge at Freedom Park, hoping to beat the 127-hour record for the longest dance marathon by an individual. Indian dancer Srushti Sudhir Jagtap set that mark in 2023.
Daniel reached 168 hours at about 3am on Tuesday, but he kept going for nine more hours and stopped at midday, his team said. He was later taken to hospital for a medical check-up.
Crowds gathered at the park to cheer him on. He danced to Afrobeats, fuji, jazz and zouk, and wore outfits like agbada and dashiki. His team says the performance was meant to show Nigeria’s cultural diversity.
He was allowed five minutes of rest for every hour of dancing, and medical staff were on site throughout.
Guinness World Records has confirmed it received his application, but the record has not been confirmed. Daniel still has to submit his evidence for review and verification.
