Rick Ross is in police custody in Miami-Dade County after turning himself in on Thursday morning, according to police sources cited by TMZ.
The rapper was arrested on two battery charges, including battery by strangulation. The charges follow a complaint from an ex-girlfriend, who claims he attacked her on August 28 at the home they shared.
She told police she was asleep when he woke her up, angry over a photo she was tagged in on social media. She alleges he slapped her, hit her in the chest several times, choked her and slammed her against a wall. She gave police photos of her alleged injuries.
Ross did not speak to officers about the allegations. Court records show he has pleaded not guilty to both charges.
His lawyers, Steve Sadow and Bradley Horenstein, told TMZ their client is innocent and is being wrongfully accused. They noted that the woman did not file a police report until a month after the alleged incident, and asked the public not to prejudge him.
Ross is being held on a $5,000 bond for the strangulation charge and $1,000 for the other. He is due back in court on October 22.
