Nigerian veteran actor Kanayo O. Kanayo is facing backlash online over comments he reportedly made about Ghanaian women.
According to a report by The BBC Ghana on Monday, October 5, 2026, the actor made the remarks while recounting some of his experiences with women from both countries at Nzulezu.
He reportedly called Ghanaian girls “ogbono,” and explained the word in a way that suggested he finds them less flexible and less active in bed. He then claimed Nigerian women are more active and flexible.
Reactions have been mixed. Some social media users took it as a joke from an outspoken actor. Others disagreed strongly and questioned why anyone would make such a sweeping statement about women based on their nationality.
Critics also say one person’s experience cannot describe all women from a country. Some believe the comments could reinforce negative stereotypes about Ghanaian women, while others feel Kanayo was only sharing a personal opinion.
Kanayo O. Kanayo is one of Nigeria’s most recognisable veteran actors, with a long career in the country’s film industry. The report does not say whether he has responded to the reactions.
