I took my wife’s phone to make a call. The battery was almost dead. There was an unread message from a man. My wife had saved his name along with a woman’s name.
I didn’t really want to open it, but because of the nature of the message, I had to read their conversations. The unread message on her screen read {I’ll do anything for you, sweetie}.
I know a woman could send that message, but my instinct told me I should confirm the gender from their chat. They had a long chat history. And phone calls. I discovered something that shocked me.
It stemmed from their interactions last year when my daughter was born. While my wife was in the delivery room, I was giving a presentation for our company.
When my wife forwarded me the picture of my daughter via WhatsApp, she was about to give a speech at the meeting. I was so excited that I had to tell everyone I had a daughter. I used “forwarded” because she had originally uploaded the picture to this man and captioned it “Our little girl.”
I took out my phone and scrolled to see when she had forwarded me the same picture after sending it to him. 45 minutes. I was just an afterthought. My daughter’s middle name is one he suggested in their chat. See comment for more details.
