A pastor in Nigeria is facing serious allegations after reports claimed he fathered children with nearly 20 women in his congregation. He leads Vineyard Ministry of the Holy Trinity Church as General Overseer.
The claims reportedly began as rumors. Some church members then allegedly brought the matter to church leaders.
According to the reports, the pastor had relationships with several women in the church, including married members. Some of the women are said to have become pregnant.
The pastor is reported to have defended himself by saying the Holy Spirit directed him to impregnate as many female members as possible. He also allegedly denied forcing anyone, saying the women agreed to the relationships. For the married women, he reportedly claimed their husbands knew about the instruction and consented.
The allegations have raised questions about the responsibilities religious leaders have toward the people who trust them. That includes protecting members who look to them for spiritual guidance.
Still, none of this has been independently verified. The church, the women involved and the relevant authorities have not been quoted confirming the claims, so the facts remain unclear.
